We all know that person… You know, the person who sets the table with cloth napkins and centerpieces for a simple dinner with friends. The one who sends out formal invitations to Thanksgiving. The person who thinks that any get together is an event worth celebrating and decorating.
If you ask my friends, they’d tell you that person is me. I love to craft and to add little personal touches when entertaining. When I got engaged in June, I let myself be excited about being engaged for about a week and then I went straight into excitement about wedding planning!
Truth be told, Phillip and I were planning a bit of our wedding (the venue, food, honeymoon) before he had even popped the question. When and where and how he proposed was a total surprise, but the fact that he was going to propose and we would soon be married was not. When you own a house together and a business (did you know he is my business partner? gotta have my numbers guy!), marriage is the logical next step. It is also something we have been looking forward to for a long time!
Timing is everything and God’s timing is perfect, so I would not have changed a thing. Phillip often talk about how we want to have a wedding that is joyful and inviting. We want to mesh both of our styles – his love of all things classic and contemporary with my love of elegant, romantic, and fun – into one awesome celebration to kick off the rest of our lives together!
With ideas and inspiration flying and wanting to tackle the decorations and invitations as well as making my own wedding dress and choosing vendors, oh and actually having time to enjoy being engaged… I quickly became overwhelmed. While I wanted to do EVERYTHING by myself, I knew I couldn’t. That stings a little because I just love creating and adding personal details. Plus, it’s a hard thing to give away control when it comes to something so personal.
I see it all of the time when I am creating websites for people. It is fun to be an integral part of the design process. What it all boils down to is finding someone you trust who is willing to listen to your ideas and who can help you implement them with the same quality and love as you would.
Luckily, I found Charity from Honeybee Events! Charity is an event planner rockstar. She has designed weddings, birthdays, sets for HGTV, big events and parties. She can make any vision come to life and she is the COOLEST person! When we met up for the first time, I felt like I was having coffee with an old friend. I told her our hopes and dreams for this wedding and she listened but also provided suggestions that I never would have thought of! Below are some clips from my wedding inspiration board:
Being able to give decor and coordination to Charity has given me the time to really dive into what matters to me. Getting married to the love of my life being the top of the list! Phillip and I have had time to make the fun decisions together rather than worrying about little details – and the details won’t be left out thanks to Charity’s designs!
Learning Spanish has been on mine and Phillip’s bucket list for two years and we are finally getting to spend time doing that as well. We also were able to get certified to scuba dive and we will be taking dancing lessons in the new year.
As far as the design goes, Charity is cooking it up for us! In the meantime, I am still making my own invitations and my dress. I also designed our save the dates!
Being engaged seems like such a short and unique season of life. If you are a designer or creative person like me, don’t worry about trying to do everything for your wedding. Try not to worry about anything at all! Just pick a few tasks you want to own and leave the rest to someone you trust. I promise you will not be sad and your other half will be thankful to enjoy time with you!
